I know this doesn't have to do with education but I used to be a medical courier, meaning most my customers were poor. Yes, I did have horrible issues with whites, but for any problem I had with a white, multiply it by 7 with blacks. Don't care if anybody calls it racist I call it a fact. Because I couldn't tolerate the behavior of blacks, I quit my job. Oh and by the way I was recently attacked by a gang and they were black. But what is so sad are all the blacks out there really trying to be the best they can be in life, but being sterotyped by whites who don't know them. The blacks who do try In life I feel so sorry they have to be unfairly categorized with the blacks who refuse to try!

I am a teacher in South Florida and I have witnessed firsthand exactly what this person is describing. After graduating from college, my first teaching job was at a certain Carol City school that I won't mention by name... I can tell you that basically no teaching goes on there... teachers don't really work, they just pray they make it through the day without any major catastrophe befalling them. The few that actually attempt to teach have to water-down the curriculum so much that it really doesn't prepare the kids for the FCAT. Come March the school earns another “F” and then guess who is at fault... of course the teachers... God forbid we blame the students or parents, even thought they could care less about their own education. Luckily I was able to transfer to a pretty good school the following year. I feel sorry for teachers stuck in these inner city schools... this is not life for them... it is barely existence. I am not black, I came to this country from Latin America as a teenager and worked very hard to earn my degrees. I have had bright black students... but all I can tell you that the average black kid comes to school with his pants half-way down and no book-bag... or even a pencil. This is not racism... I am simply stating facts that most teachers already know... and if you don't believe me go see for yourselves. Drive to an all black school and watch the students as they are being released... then draw your own conclusions. I very sad as I type this... it should not have to be this way, but I feel I have to speak out. This is not a problem for non blacks to solve. It is the black community who must address these issues.
Sad but True, you make excellent points here. Do you think there is any merit in possibly going back to segregated schools? Your point about the black community is well taken, but i would think any race that often refuses to take individual responsibility, would find it hard to accomplish as a group. Wonder why, so often black children adopted into white families, excell at education in contrast to the rest?

You have a good point. I have alot of black friends who work in decent jobs, educated and would give the shirt off their back and they themselves acknowledge that there are alot of lazy, smarta** blacks who act like the world owes them. I also used to work where I had to go into homes and not one,I mean not one black house I entered I could not get out of there without them believing they were to get more than what I was there for.

What I wrote earlier was from direct personal experience working with black high schoolers, but I also interned in southern Homestead where the average student is the child of a dirt-poor mexican migrant worker that can barely communicate... and their grades may be low, but they are still pretty decent people. Therefore poverty is only to blame to a certain extent. You can be poor and still be a decent person... I don't want to be labeled a racist, so I am not going to give an opinion about why blacks underperform, but I think it should be left up to them to fix these problems. BTW if you think going back to segregated schools is possible... I think there is a much higher chance that "ROW vs. Wade" (abortion) will be overtured at the Supreme Court before "Brown vs. Board of Education" (desegregation), and most experts believe abortion is settled law (right that cannot be revoked).

It's unfortunate but you are correct. I have had many black friends whose parents are highly educated professionals and while genetics play a crucial role, the psycho-social aspect is equally as important. Peer pressure in the AA community is more extreme to their own counterparts who have or seem to exhibit "white" tendencies.(ie. studying, proper pronunciation, dress, non-violent behavior, etc) It is extremely disappointing that these AA youth are first categorized at having "whiteness" and therefore estranged from their own peers. It leaves most intelligent AA as striving to learn to be a part of their own peer group and dismiss their own positive qualities and instead engage in behavior that will denigrate themselves and any hope of future educational advancement.

An example would be a Tiger woods personality wanting to be a thug personality.(*note, they will tend to ultimately blame "whitey" or "the man" for this type of personality disorder)

I actually agree with you. There was a study done where teachers were told "They are the best students I've ever seen!!" before entering a class full of C+ students, the students are more likely to have a good learning experience. The teachers left the class saying "you were right. they were wonderful!"

Then, teachers were told "Good luck with that group. They're all failures", before entering a class full of C+ students, and the teachers left the class saying "I can't work with them"....
the students had a bad learning experience.

Believe it or not, your subconscious prejudice can affect your teaching style.

I did experience this. I'm one of the students that a lot of other black people called "acting white". I grew up all over the world, and experienced the most prejudice from black people, and I'm Caribbean-American...it's really sad.

I won't say it's genetics though. Failure is not in anyone's genes.

I agree it's a cultural thing. "Ghetto Mentality" :/

I'm sorry you had a difficult time with your peers. Rise above the situation and realize everyone is different. I have many Caribbean friends and (man I love the spicy food) they all say the same thing only about American blacks. For instance, many Haitian will say American blacks are lazy. I never understood this, until now.

I notice there is a real cultural difference between us.

I don't talk about my slave ancestors as if I suffered with them.
I can see just from the AA forum that a lot of people haven't 'let go'

I sympathize, but don't let it effect how I live. I think there is a mentality of failure among those who choose to hold themselves back just because they could use someone else's tragedy to justify it..

its the ghetto thug mentality... learning is seen a s "acting white" ... pimping, hoeing, selling drugs, robbing, etc is "cool" and seen as an acceptable profession; EVERY black person i have ever worked with has a relative who is apimp; one who is a crack ho; one who "hustles" to make a living; a few cousins in jail and prison for committing crimes.etc....

I took on a unique study for my grad project..(the school I shall not name). We, I use this term to define my team set up a series of race related iq tests. Two of my partners being aa. In all cases and in all regions, on all tests, the aa scores were lower. The difference was 20 iq points. The second study conducted by my partner was a social mean curve. Basically quantified human manners with my study. It found that even in "rich" white areas aa were more prone to violence and though the iq scores were higher then their "ghetto" counterparts, the students of other races rose by the same amount. In otherwords, if the average aa in innercity had a 75 iq and the average of another race was 95, in the rich areas, the aa went up to 95 but the other race went up to 115. I am not racist. I in face graded all tests and watched all viedo after the conclusion was graded to ensure human racism could not tamper with the results. I thought some of you would find this interesting.

You can't prove that any of this is valid at all. I have met intelligent and stupid from just about every race/ethnicity. What a stupid assumption.
That is a very true statement. But to not recognize that blacks as a demographic have a corner on stupidity is to choose to ignore reality. You can pretend all you want for that to not be the truth, but your only fooling yourself. I live in Detroit. The man in charge of curriculum for the Detroit Public Schools can barely read and he is black. Everything about the DPS is black controlled and some classrooms didn't get books till 3 months into the school year. Less then 50% of the black children graduate high school and their reading level is typically about 5th to 6th grade level. That does not happen anywhere else in the State. 7 out of 10 black children in our city are born into single parent households. You can buy a house in Detroit right now for less then $500, and even if your black, you wouldn't want to send your kid to the school in your neighborhood. Keep ignoring reality. It really makes you sound smart.

This may be radical thinking, but has anyone ever established a connection between americans education drop off versus europe, and the integration of the big city schools? Seems we were number one internationally for years, then we dropped off and european students went ahead of us......

You hit the nail on the head. Facts are facts no matter how they try to dispute it. People that tell the truth are called "racists" and people that lie about it don't have the balls to admit it.

Of course, the connection has been made. It just isn't published because it's politically incorrect to do so. When previously all-white school districts brought the darkies in, they couldn't keep up and so the standards were lowered so the spooks could pass.

Daily Horoscope for May 16

Libra

You are fairly intense at the moment and other people could find you more stubborn than usual in discussions. You will have to confront those who share joint responsibilities with you to sort out better agreements. But try not to go leaping into a situation too emotionally and then discover that you don't really want to see it through to the end. It's important for you to be surrounded by nice, happy, reassuring mates.
